The leaves may change, the temperatures fall,
But the excitement continues at Deep Creek Lake,
a true four-season resort.
If you are ready for a break and thinking about a revitalizing getaway, just pack a bag and head for the high country. Relax, catch your breath and enjoy the beautiful scenery in Maryland's Mountains. Bring Fido with you. There is something for everyone in these mountains. Mother Nature doesn't need reservations.
Let The Adventures Begin.
Novice adventurer - Relax in a hammock on the deck while enjoying a glass of Maryland wine. Explore the small towns, learn about the history of Maryland's colonial frontier and join in the fun at a fall festival. Picnic in one of the county's many parks. Ride the chairlift at the Wisp and let your soul be awed by the beauty below you. See why the county's population doubles during the 39-year-old Autumn Glory festival. Get up close and personal with nature as you hike or bike through the forests and valleys of Garrett County. Get out on the lake and try flat-water kayaking or canoeing. Roast marshmallows for s'mores at a bonfire in the evening and just enjoy the quiet.
Experienced adventurer -Try rock-climbing, mountain and free-style biking, kayaking or backpacking through some of Maryland's largest and wildest forests. Take an ATV ride on special trails in the Potomac-Garrett and Savage River State Forests or go by horseback along the park trails and rivers. Waterski or move across the surface of the lake on a personal watercraft. Try the skateboarding ramps or paintball courts at Wisp or test your skills mountain-boarding. Play tennis on a clay court or golf at several courses. Try your hand at archery, skeet shooting or sporting clays. Catch some fish for breakfast or let the hunter in you take to the woods.
Expert adventurer - Challenge the Class IV and V rapids on the Yough and learn about the new re-circulating whitewater course that will be opening on top of Marsh Mountain, only one of two such courses in the western Hemisphere. Did you ever picture yourself driving a team of Siberian Huskies. With special sleds and carts, you don't have to wait until the snow flies. Two companies now offer rides and training south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Learn how to do it, then come back in the winter to take the team out yourself.. Try windsurfing on five of the county's seven lakes or experience the newer sport of “scurfing” behind a boat..
